air within cyberia is a shared resource. quality is maintained by controlling combustion sources, material choices, and indoor ventilation standards.

open burning

prohibited at all times:

synthetic materials: plastics, rubbers, foams, painted or treated wood, composite panels

agricultural residues used as waste disposal (open field burning)

municipal solid waste

permitted with prior notification (48 h) to neighbors within 100 m:

biochar retort or TLUD kiln — requires smoke-free secondary combustion chamber

controlled burns for land clearing of organic material during dry season — wind direction must carry smoke away from residential zones

cooking and processing fires

wood fires: only dry, untreated hardwood or coconut shell

rocket stove or gasifier preferred — smoke-free operation from second ignition

no kerosene or diesel combustion indoors

biogas from energy and water system is the default indoor cooking fuel

generators and engines

diesel generators: emergency backup only, maximum 4 h/day per unit, exhaust directed away from occupied spaces

all internal combustion equipment: tier 4 emissions standard or equivalent

petrol-powered hand tools: permitted in laba workshop zone only, not in residential or garden zones

indoor air

VOC limits on materials used in construction and furniture: zero-VOC paints, natural oils, beeswax, lime plaster — no solvent-based finishes in occupied spaces

cross-ventilation required in all sleeping spaces: minimum two openings on opposing walls

cooking smoke: range hood or chimney with 1.5× area dilution

dust

construction zones: water suppression of exposed soil during dry season

volcanic ash events: temporary closure of outdoor common areas until PM10 falls below 150 µg/m³

monitoring

shared PM2.5 sensor at community center, readings published daily to cyberia ledger

neighbor complaint threshold: 3 documented complaints triggers formal review within 7 days
