moisture check:
feel top 3–5 cm of soil;
if dry → deep-water ~15–25 l per vine (pots: until slight runoff).
avoid puddling >1 h.
mulch:
keep 5–8 cm organic mulch;
pull back 5–10 cm from the stem;
top up thin spots.
trellis & training:
tie new shoots horizontally along wires;
lift any growth off the ground;
spread vines for airflow.
pruning & sanitation:
remove dead/diseased leaves and suckers;
thin congested interior;
clip overly vigorous runners after 6–8 nodes.
flowers & fruit set:
mornings, check blooms;
if humid/still, hand-pollinate (dab pollen from anther to stigma).
feeding (if it’s a feeding week):
compost tea or vermicompost extract 2–4 l per vine;
keep nitrogen moderate;
add potassium (seaweed or a light sprinkle of wood ash).
pests:
inspect undersides for aphids, mealybugs, mites;
action → morning rinse + soap 1–2% or neem 5 ml/l;
repeat in 3–5 days if needed. manage ants.
fruit fly protection:
bag young fruits or refresh traps/baits;
collect and bin any stung or fallen fruit.
disease watch:
leaf/fruit spots → remove affected tissue;
improve airflow;
optional spray baking soda 1 tsp/l + a drop of soap (avoid evening wetting).
support & cleanup:
prop heavy clusters;
clear weeds in a 50–80 cm ring around the stem.
drainage pass:
after rain, open channels so roots never sit waterlogged.
