- prepare the base (per person):
- in a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup oats and 1 cup of liquid (water, milk, or a mix of both)
- add dried fruits, prunes/apricots/goji berries/mixed (optional)
- chopped
- soaked for a ~~5 minutes in hot boiling water
- add turmeric (optional):
- stir in 1/8 teaspoon turmeric for added flavor and health benefits.
- start cooking:
- bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- simmer the oats:
- once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low.
- simmer the oats for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they reach a creamy consistency.
- check consistency:
- for a thicker oatmeal, cook a minute or two longer.
- for a thinner consistency, add a splash of water or milk and stir.
- serve and garnish:
- transfer the oatmeal to a bowl.
