geography
the discipline that studies places, spaces, and the interaction between human societies and their environments. geography bridges geo (physical territory), eco (living systems), and socio (human spatial organization)
in the crystal, geography spans three domains:
geo — climate, biome, terrain, plate tectonics, soil, river, ocean
eco — biomes, land use, conservation, human impact on ecosystems
socio — borders, migration, urbanization, network states, spatial governance
branches
physical geography → geo (climate zones, geomorphology, hydrology, glacier)
biogeography → geo + eco + bio (species distribution, island biogeography)
human geography → socio + geo (urbanization, migration, cultural landscapes)
cartography → geo + info (mapping, GIS, spatial data, maps)
geopolitics → geo + socio (territory, sovereignty, resources, empire)
environmental geography → geo + eco (climate, pollution, sustainability)
